Brenda’s Experience Using Salts (from Barrie, ON.)

I have a permanent ostomy from colorectal cancer. In addition to having a permanent ostomy, it is complicated by peristomal psoriasis and kobners phenomenon (which is a type of psoriasis caused by an injury to the skin. The ostomy is perceived as an injury in addition I also have severe adhesive sensitivities, making it difficult to find an ostomy appliance that I can use without reaction.

For the past year Hollister has been saying that they will be discontinuing their karaya line. Which had been the only product I was able to use.

Flare up, Before using Salts – Sent to me on April 27, 2022

After using Salts (with Aloe – XND32) – Sent May 25, 2022.

I was very surprised when I was given a few salts one piece flange. I did not react to it! Usually, the reaction is one of almost immediate irritation with discomfort and itching. But I did not experience this(reaction) with the Salts product.

With the peristomal psoriasis, it makes it impossible to get multiple days from an appliance. At its worse, I have to change the appliance daily, leaving the skin open to air for a period of time.

I am happy to provide you with my family doctors name Dr. J. lai and ostomy nurse name Sylvia. I see a dermatologist at womens college hospital in Toronto. I had also seen an ostomy nurse Jo at TGH in Toronto. Just to confirm that I am not exaggerating.
